New film launched today by Dundee Carers Centre
THE team at Dundee Carers’ Centre has been running a highly visible on-street campaign across Dundee in recent weeks to alert the public to the new approach to supporting individuals and their carers through self-directed support.
Leaflets and posters have been distributed to all key areas in Dundee and Angus and the ‘Faces of self-directed support’ are on all key billboards and under passes in the city.
To give people a better understanding and a more in-depth idea of the range of options available to them, an one-day SDS Fair is being held in Dundee Caird Hall on 2 May 2015 from 10.00am to 4.00pm with free entry for all.
There will be over 40 service providers offering information on the choices and services that are available. The event will be of interest to people with support needs, carers and people who work in the care sector.
To put the new SDS approach in context, motivational speakers, Jamie Andrew – top Scottish mountaineer – will talk about his amazing ascents all over the world, as a quadruple amputee. Also, communications professional, Mike Stevenson, will talk about his journey from rough-sleeping to becoming a multi, award-winning entrepreneur.
Lucinda Godfrey said: “We have just launched our video on social media written and co-directed by dynamic young film BAFTA winner, Iain Henderson, at our on-street event early this month and we would encourage people to take a few moments to watch the full version online.
Lucinda added: “Understanding the daily impact SDS this will have on peoples’ lives is vital and already we are hearing great outcomes from the public. Our event in May will bring the practical aspects to life with first-hand accounts from our speakers.”
The film was written and co-directed and edited by Iain Henderson, Young Bafta winner Scotland 2015 and was co-directed and produced by BOLD.
