SHIVER me timbers! This Easter Sunday, Scone Palace, the crowning place of The Kings of Scots, is hosting an action-packed Pirate Fun Day with events throughout the day for swashbuckling families to enjoy from pirate face painting to an epic palace treasure hunt where novice pirates will be recruited! Aye, it be true!

Visitors will be greeted by notorious pirates, ‘Slim Jim McConquendale’ and ‘Cut-throat Pete’, who will be looking for volunteers to join them on a quest to locate their treasure chest of gold.

They will need help following their ancient treasure map as it has been 300 years since they buried the treasure on their last visit to Scone Palace while they were hunting for the precious Pearls of the Tay.

Other activities include Easter egg rolling on Moot Hill (watch out for thieving pirates!), an Easter egg hunt in the maze, a golden bunny hunt in the Palace State Rooms and pottery painting.

Having opened its gates for the tourist season on April 1st, the Palace is looking forward to welcoming visitors both locally and from all over the world to the historic visitor attraction over the summer.

Heather ‘First Shipmate’ McArthur, sales and events manager at Scone Palace, commented:

“This Sunday is set to be a fantastic day out for all the family with lots of fun and, shall we say, unique activities for visitors to experience with the expert help of our visiting pirates! We are requesting that people dress up as their favourite pirates, and the team will all be donning their swashbuckling best, so we are hoping to see lots of Jack Sparrows and Captain Hooks!

“At Scone Palace, we pride ourselves on offering visitors an unforgettable experience and I can’t think of a more fun and memorable way for families to spend Easter Sunday.”

As well as the pirate shenanigans taking place in the Scone Palace grounds, there is also plenty to see inside the Palace. In particular, the Dido Belle – Her Story exhibition of which a Hollywood movie was made about Dido Elizabeth Belle whose famous painting hangs in the Palace’s Ambassador’s Room.

Scone Palace recently scooped the top accolade for tourism in the Scottish Rural Awards. As one of Scotland’s biggest tourist destinations, it attracts over 100,000 visitors every year, as well as welcoming the tens of thousands of visitors who attend major events held on the estate such as Rewind Festival and The Scottish Game Fair.
