Glasgow Taxis Ltd will donate 50p from each completed, booked fare on Friday April 10 for China walk in aid of Yorkhill Children’s Charity
A FUNDRAISING venture which will see two Glasgow nurses walk the Great Wall of China has received a ‘fare’ donation from the city’s black taxi company.
Two senior nurses at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Glasgow are taking on the world-famous landmark this September to raise money for Yorkhill Children’s Charity.
In support of the fundraiser, 50p from each completed, booked fare of a Glasgow Taxis Ltd taxi journey on Friday April 10 will be given to the charity in recognition of this fantastic cause and the nurses’ commendable efforts.
The nurses will walk 100 miles of the Great Wall of China in 7.5 days. Not only will this improve their fitness levels, but the money raised will improve the lives of children and their families who benefit from the hospital’s excellent care.
Funds raised will be used to buy new equipment for the cardiac department. The Royal Hospital for Sick Children makes a real difference to the lives of children born with heart defects and life threatening conditions including cancer.
There will be up to 850 Glasgow Taxis on the road on Friday April 10 allowing Glasgow Taxis Ltd to really get behind this fantastic cause and help raise as much money as possible.
Stephen Flynn, vice=chair of Glasgow Taxis Ltd, said: “The Royal Hospital for Sick Children makes a real difference to the lives of children and their families affected by life threatening diseases. Glasgow Taxis Ltd is really pleased to be able to show our support to this worthwhile cause and give something back to the city.
“The 100-mile challenge the nurses have set themselves is a big one and we wish them every success with their fundraising efforts and their expedition along the Great Wall of China.”
Lisa Kennedy and Alan Logan, both senior nurses in the Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory, Royal Hospital for Sick Children, said: “We are incredibly touched by Glasgow Taxis generous donation. We cannot thank them enough for their support and we really appreciate it.
“We set ourselves this challenge as we see the battles that sick children and their families are fighting every day in the hospital. We can’t wait to tackle the Great Wall of China and see just how much money we can raise for the children back in Glasgow.
Kirsten Sinclair, director of Fundraising at Yorkhill Children’s Charity, said: “Alan and Lisa see first-hand the challenges faced every day by our patients, and the money that they raise really will make a difference to the lives of so many children and their families. We would like to express our thanks to Glasgow Taxis and its drivers for supporting us so generously.”
