PEOPLE are in for a purple treat at twilight when they look up at The Falkirk Wheel on Thursday 26 March.
This well-known landmark will be purple lit to reflect international epilepsy awareness day.
Fun-filled events like this on Purple Day not only get people talking about epilepsy but send a powerful message of support for the estimated 54,000 people with this common condition in Scotland.
Scottish Canals products and services manager, Cara Baillie, who is arranging the Wheel’s violet-toned appearance after sunset, said: “Over 1,520 people living in the Falkirk area have epilepsy.
“The Falkirk Wheel turning purple that evening highlights an important and worthwhile cause. We are glad to support Epilepsy Scotland’s awareness-raising work and be part of their Turn Purple Scotland campaign.”
Epilepsy Scotland chief executive, Lesslie Young, added: “We are excited that Falkirk Wheel is the first of several Scottish landmarks to put their spotlights on Purple Day.
“We appreciate each organisation, MSP, school, and our supporters up and down the country, who are joining in to help us raise public awareness. The more people talk freely about epilepsy, the less likely it is that social barriers and stigma will remain.
“Everyone can take part in Purple Day in their own way. Our website has a dedicated page with many useful ideas and suggestions.
“Whether you decide to wear purple and send a selfie to our web page, go on social media to make a wish for epilepsy, or fundraise for us, all your actions are helping to bring epilepsy into the limelight.”
