THE photo call for the sale of a private collection of Jack Vettriano paintings will take place at Bonhams, 22 Queen Street, Edinburgh at 11.00 on Friday 27 March.
The collection consists of 12 paintings and is estimated at a total of between £800,000-1,200,000.
All the pictures are fresh to the market and provide a cross section of the themes that have informed Vettriano’s work for many years.
Some are familiar from illustrated books on the artist.
Waltzers (est £200,000-300,000), for example, is a well-known image showing elegant couples dancing under a night sky.
The Road to Nowhere (est £150,000-200,000) and Missing Man II (est £100.000-150,000 each) show stylish figures on beaches.
Other familiar works include Study for Shades of Scarlet (£100,000-150,000), one of a number of paintings set in stylish interiors and cafés depicting lovers or figures alone.
The sale itself takes place at Bonhams Edinburgh on Tuesday 31 March at 6.00 p.m.
A note on the artist:
Jack Vettriano was born in 1951 and grew up in Methil in Fife. He left school at 16 and only started painting, as a hobby, in the 1970s.
Entirely self-taught, Vettriano first found fame in 1989 when two of his canvases submitted to the Scottish Royal Academy sold you on the first day.
His distinctive work is now known all over the world and he counts Jack Nicholson, Sir Alex Ferguson, Sir Tim Rice and Robbie Coltrane among his supporters.
