TO CELEBRATE the spectacular local wildlife inhabiting their grounds, Atholl Estates at Blair Atholl are appealing to the public to get crafty and help them fill the woods with wildlife of the woolly variety for the Cairngorms Nature Festival weekend on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th May, 2015.
As part of the annual festival, which is taking place at four venues across the Cairngorms including Aviemore, Ballater, Tomintoul and Blair Atholl, Atholl Estates are asking members of the public to help them reflect the array of nature on display with fabric examples of the local wildlife.
The Estates team will position the fabrics around the park and woods at the village information centre for visitors to spot and enjoy during the Festival weekend in May.
While inviting visitors to spot as many fabric forms of wildlife as they can, the Festival will also include an exciting mix of other nature events including a Wild Night Out on the Saturday evening, an overnight camping expedition for families to get involved in a variety of wildlife and Ranger activities.
Sunday activities include an event with the RSPB at the Blair Atholl Information Centre and a company called Open Air Laboratories network (OPAL) will be there hosting a challenge to count as many bugs as possible.
Polly Freeman, countryside ranger at Atholl Estates, commented:
“Our crafty theme for the Cairngorms Nature Festival is local wildlife, so members of the public can create anything wildlife related from mushrooms, flowers and trees, to birds, butterflies and red squirrels. All forms of fabric- knitted, crocheted, patchwork, felt, whatever works for you, will be most welcome. We can’t wait to decorate the woods with these crafty creations!”
Polly continued:
“We are looking to receive any wild creations by the week before the festival weekend, so the team here have time to place the fabric wildlife around the grounds ahead of the event taking place.”
If you are planning on making some woolly wildlife, all creations are being gathered and looked after at Blair Atholl Information Centre.
