QUARRIERS, one of Scotland’s largest social care charities, banished the winter blues this past week with a little help from the Braehead Clan – and some furry friends.
Several members of the ice hockey team stopped by Quarriers’ Family Centre Ruchazie for a visit and to donate hundreds of teddy bears for youngsters to enjoy.
Each year, Braehead Clan encourages fans to donate brand new teddy bears and soft toys for local charities at their annual Teddy Toss in December. The teddies are thrown onto the rink in celebration of Braehead Clan’s first goal. They are then collected up and offered to new homes.
Gareth Chalmers, hockey operations director of Braehead Clan Ice Hockey Club, said: “Supporting local charities is very important to everyone at Braehead Clan. Quarriers does fantastic work for children and young people across Glasgow and beyond, and we are delighted to support them by donating the soft toys from our Teddy Toss.”
Alice Drife, Quarriers chief executive, said: “Quarriers is thrilled with Braehead Clan’s generosity in donating both the teddies and the players’ valuable time. The people we support at Quarriers’ Family Resource Centre Ruchazie, Stopover and Calvay Services had a wonderful day and are extremely grateful to the players.”
Ends.
