TWO young members of staff from a luxurious four-star hotel on the outskirts of Aberdeen are celebrating after successfully competing in a prestigious industry competition.
Ryan Jenkins and Daniel Grant represented the Mercure Aberdeen Ardoe House Hotel and Spa in the Accor Professions Challenge in London recently.
Ryan, 20, who is a restaurant team member at the 19th-century mansion house, won the table service contest for his age group, and pastry chef, Daniel, 19, competed in the young chef category, taking second place.
As a result of winning his category, Ryan will travel to Paris on 15 January 2015, to join seven other UK finalists competing in the international finals.
General manager of Ardoe, Peter Sangster, said: “We are extremely proud of Ryan and Daniel for their success in the competition. They play important roles in the running of both the kitchen and front of house at Ardoe, and being recognised in the competition is a major achievement for them both.
“We are committed to providing our staff with as many opportunities for professional development as possible and it is great to see this being recognised by professionals and peers from across the industry.”
Philip Addison, vice-president of Human Resources, Accor UK & Ireland, said: “Young people are vital the success of our sector and it is important that we inspire and engage our employees throughout their careers.
“The Professions Challenge is an interactive way for them to experience different areas of the business and to get them thinking about the different career paths available to them within Accor and the industry.”
The prestigious four-star hotel has also been shortlisted as a finalist in two categories of the Aberdeen City and Shire Tourism Awards 2015.
