DUNCAN McGillivray, who retired as general manager of Bruichladdich on the island of Islay earlier this year after a career at the distillery that spanned 40 years has been given a ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ by the well known Whisky Advocate magazine in the USA.
Bruichladdich CEO, Simon Coughlin, said: “Duncan’s experience and quiet determination were a central pillar in the renaissance of Bruichladdich. His ability to innovate and improvise in the face of seemingly impossible engineering challenges, combined with an extraordinary work ethic, were an inspiration to us all. We could not have done it without him. He thoroughly deserves this award.”
John McLellan, the manager at neighboring Kilchoman Distillery, posted on Facebook: “This is surely the most deserved and overdue award ever given… people on Islay will be thanking him for generations to come.”
