CHIVAS Brothers, the Scotch whisky and premium gin business of Pernod Ricard, has had its approach to the prevention of accidents and dedication to the wellbeing of its employees recognised with two prestigious accolades at the RoSPA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents) Occupational Health and Safety Awards 2014.
The company was presented with a RoSPA Gold award for the fifth consecutive year – and this year also took home the additional accolade of the Astor Trophy.
RoSPA’s gold award recognises organisations that maintain high standards of occupational health and safety, while the Astor Trophy is presented to the company that demonstrates the best management of Occupational Health. Judges praised Chivas Brothers’ strategic vision for the health of its employees, specifically in relation to assessment, prevention and control of health risks, as well as the company’s promotion of wellbeing at work.
Gordon Buist, production director for Chivas Brothers, said: “We are delighted to have won the RoSPA gold award for a fifth year running – demonstrating that we have consistently maintained high standards of health and safety at our sites.
“It was especially pleasing to be presented with an additional award – the Astor Trophy – this year, which is testament to the very hard work of our Occupational Health team. From services such as smoking cessation and in-house physiotherapy, to lifestyle assessments and healthy eating promotions in our canteens, the team works tirelessly to improve the health and wellbeing of our 1,600 strong workforce.”
David Rawlins, RoSPA’s awards manager, added: “The RoSPA Awards encourage the raising of occupational health and safety standards across the board. Organisations that gain recognition for their health and safety management systems, such as Chivas Brothers, contribute to a collective raising of the bar for other organisations to aspire to, and we offer them our congratulations.”
