THE managing director of a leading North-east organic recycling firmwill be planting the seeds of his entrepreneurial success during an event for businesses from across Aberdeen City and Shire.
Grant Keenan, who launched Keenan Recycling, which is based in New Deer, Aberdeenshire, in 2001 when he saw a gap in the market for organic recycling in the North-east, will address guests during the Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce’s (AGCC) networking event, ‘Entrepreneurship – The Seeds of Success’, at the end of November.
Mr Keenan will talk about the history of the award-winning company, which transforms food and garden waste into compost at its award-winning £5million facility, and the trials and tribulations he has faced over the years to make the business a success.
The specialist recycling firm, which has doubled its commercial food waste customers to more than 1400 since the launch of the Waste (Scotland) Regulations in January, transforms the 60,000 tonnes of waste it collects into BSI accredited soil improver for agriculture and horticulture use.
Entrepreneur, Mr Keenan is also a director of the AGCC board, a board member of Enterprise North East Trust (Enterprise), and also chairs the Organic Recycling Group Scotland, which is part of REA (Renewable Energy Association).
Speaking ahead of the event, Mr Keenan said: “Keenan Recycling has come a long way since it was established 13 years ago, and it has involved a lot of hard work and determination to make it a success.
“The North-east has a high number of entrepreneurs, and it is hoped that the event will inform people about the opportunities available to them in the area, and inspire them to follow their passions to start a business.”
The AGCC Entrepreneurship – ‘The Seeds of Success’ business lunch takes place at the Tor-Na-Coille Hotel, Banchory, on 28 November, from 11.45 – 2pm. A number of other speakers will also address the event, including councillor Jim Gifford, leader of Aberdeenshire Council, and Ken Howie, managing director of Howie Irvine, Deeside Activity Park.
