AN Aberdeen and Inverness-based law firm is gearing up to take on a cycling challenge for the fourth year in a row.
Twelve colleagues from leading law firm, Stronachs LLP, are getting set to take on one of the North-east’s most gruelling biking challenges, Ride the North, in a bid to raise money for two local charities.
The event, which takes place from 29 – 30 August 2014, will see the team saddle up for the two-day, 170-mile cycle through the Grampian Highlands in the north and north-east of Scotland, to raise funds for both the Maggie’s Centre in Aberdeen and The Sandpiper Trust.
The law firm was the first corporate team to sign up for the event in its inaugural year, 2011.
Marketing manager of Stronachs, Judi Taylor, said: “Ride the North is a fantastic event and as a firm we are passionate about supporting it.
“We have already raised more than £10,000 over the previous three years through sponsorship from clients, family and friends, and are hoping to add considerably to this.
“Our team has grown in numbers each year, not just with cycling participants but also volunteers, who tell us that their two days are full of laughter and camaraderie.”
The team range from trainees to partners, solicitors to support staff, and the abilities range to a similar degree, from very experienced riders to enthusiastic novices.
Judi added: “With the event only a matter of weeks away, training has taken on a more serious tone, with most of the team putting in over 100 miles a week in the saddle.
“We tend to rely on the Ride the North stalwarts for guidance, and with good reason, as we have former Team GB triathlete, Bobby McDonald, a partner at the firm, on our side.”
On the first day of Ride the North, the group will travel through the Cairngorms National Park, before following the Spey Valley back towards Elgin. Day two will feature a few old favourites, as individuals cycle The Cabrach and over Suie Hill on the way from Elgin to Aberdeen.
The law firm, also supports another local charity, The ARCHIE Foundation, and organises a variety of fundraising events throughout the year.
