Friday 15th August, 2pm-5pm
Jenniburn Centre, Tormusk Road
Castlemilk Glasgow G45 OHE
WOMEN for Independence are hosting an informal, friendly and scone-based event for women with two great guest speakers: writer and broadcaster, Lesley Riddoch, and Castlemilk actress, Libby McArthur.
Kathleen Caskie, a volunteer with Women for Independence Glasgow South, said: “Too many women in Glasgow don’t vote because their issues and aspirations are not engaged by mainstream politics and politicians. Women for Independence want to engage women in the referendum campaign by focusing on issues that affect them. We want to open up the referendum to women and to encourage them to register, turn out and – hopefully – vote Yes!”
On the day, Lesley Riddoch will chat to folk and talk about her book, ‘Blossom, and the issue of Scotland’s excluded communities. Blossom has been critically acclaimed as one of the main contributions to the referendum debate. Libby McArthur, who was born and brought up in Castlemilk who starred in River City, will share her thoughts on her personal ‘Road to Yes’. There will also be an opportunity for women to talk to local volunteers, to check that they are on the electoral register and if not get help to register.
It is vitally important that women’s voices are heard in this referendum campaign, that they are registered and come out to vote in high numbers. And Women for Independence events like this aim to inspire them to vote YES!
