A LEADING North-east organics recycling company has reached the finals of prestigious environmental awards.
Begins a spokesperson: “Keenan Recycling, of New Deer, Aberdeenshire, has been shortlisted in this year’s VIBES awards in the Environmental Product or Service, and Transport categories. The annual awards aim to recognise businesses that take significant measures to improve or reducetheir impact on the environment.
“The specialist organics firm, which won the Waste and Resources award at the2011 VIBES, currently processes more than 60,000 tonnes of organic waste per year at its award-winning facility, developing BSI accredited soil improver for agriculture and horticulture use.
“The company has doubled its commercial food waste customers to more than 1,400 since new food waste came in to force in January, and has invested £600,000 in its specialist fleet of lorries to meet demand from its growingcustomer base.
“Each bespoke low emission vehicle enables the company to collect an additional 2,000 tonnes of waste per year.
“To reduce the environmental impact of its vehicles, Keenan’s dedicated transport and logistics manager oversees the operation of the fleet of lorries and drivers at the £8million award-winning site.”
