A LEADING survival and health and safety training firm has become the UK’s only industrial training facility to deliver the full set of Global Wind Organisation (GWO) and RenewableUK (RUK) training modules from one site.

Falck Safety Services (Falck), which has 32 training centres across the world, has received full accreditation to offer comprehensive renewables safety training from its Teesside base, including the three new combined RUK/GWO programmes, introduced in June.

Falck, which was first launched in Teesside in 1994, and five years later in Aberdeen, can now deliver the full range of safety training for the growing wind turbine sector.

The training includes all 10 GWO and RUK training safety modules covering, manual handling, first aid, fire awareness, sea survival and working at heights and rescue.

The safety training experts, which delivers more than 200 health and safety and survival courses, has a 23.7 metre wind turbine tower and external boat transfer simulator at its Teesside facility on the River Tees, enabling them to provide realistic training to prepare and increase the skills of offshore wind personnel.

Colin Leyden, managing director for Falck said: “We are seeing increasing demand for renewables training as the sector continues to grow and become an increasingly attractive employment opportunity across the UK, so it is great to receive the full accreditations and offer dual certification to delegates.

“With our unique, state-of-the-art industrial training unit in Teesside, we are able to cater for those working across a full range of stages in the development of a wind farm, offering comprehensive safety training recognised throughout the world.

“Delegates can complete the accreditation in just seven days, or if preferred, the modules can be undertaken one at a time. Falck can also host the training courses at clients’ bases across the UK if required.”

Falck Safety Services, which delivers realistic training in a safe and controlled environment using up-to-the-minute equipment and simulators, has recently invested more than £3.5m in its UK training facilities, including a new man riding crane equipment, crisis management, and fire and wind energy safety training capabilities.

The firm has strong industry expertise servicing the global oil and gas, shipping, renewable energy, military and aviation industries, and last year trained over 340,000 people.
