An Explosion of Colour and Sound, the Diaspora Tapestry
St Mary’s Cathedral, Palmerston Place, Edinburgh, EH12 5AW
A PHOTOCALL for the launch of the Diaspora Tapestry will be held at St Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral, Edinburgh, at 11:30am on Wednesday 6th August.
This inspiring and ambitious community arts project which is an event in the Year of Homecoming celebrations and connects nations across the world weaving them together with the common thread of Scottish cultural and historical influence.
Following on from the ‘the Battle of Prestonpans Tapestry’, this new Scottish Diaspora tapestry was created by Andrew Crummy and is to be publicly unveiled later in the day at a reception hosted by St Mary’s Cathedral with Consular representation from over 15 countries and the Cabinet Secretary for Culture and External Affairs, Fiona Hyslop MSP.

Global contributions have come from as far apart as Russia, Australia, Brazil and Malawi.
Those attending the photocall will have the opportunity of interviewing designer, Andrew Crummy, and the Baron of Prestoungrange, who’s vision has allowed the project to proceed.
In addition recent leavers from St Mary’s Music School together with Tshwane Gospel Choir from Pretoria and trumpeters from the Music School will be performing at the photocall making additional radio and TV opportunities
