THE biggest telly ever seen in a Scots shopping centre has been installed at the intu Braehead mall, near Glasgow.
Shoppers can now keep up to date with the latest news, sporting events like the Commonwealth Games and other TV programmes on the giant screen, measuring seven metres wide by four metres high.
The screen, costing just over £200,000 to buy and install, has been mounted on a steel frame above the central atrium of the shopping mall.
The massive TV can show both terrestrial and satellite channels as well as movie trailers, music videos and advertisements with the picture coming via the latest fibre optic technology.
And since a giant screen obviously needs an equivalent-sized remote control, bosses at the centre mocked up an over-sized one for the massive TV to be switched on.
General manager (operations) at intu Braehead, Gary Turnbull, said: “We’ve got the biggest television set in any shopping centre in Scotland and innovations like this at the mall are aimed at giving shoppers the best experience when they come to visit us.
“Obviously, there’s huge interest in the Commonwealth Games going on in Glasgow just now and we’re streaming live coverage of all the events on our big screen.
“But we’re able to screen any programme you can get on your television at home and a lot more.
“The screen has been quite an attraction for shoppers and they’ve been saying to our staff how great the picture quality is.”
