THE Avenue Shopping Centre in Newton Mearns found itself at the centre of attention on Wednesday when it played host to the Queen’s Baton Relay.
East Ren Locals turned out in numbers to cheer on baton bearer Russell Macmillan, a local blind, double transplant recipient who established East Renfrewshire’s Good Causes (the Avenue’s nominated charity) who carried the baton throughout the length of the mall, applauded by well-wishers every step of the way.
Amongst a day packed with free, fun festivities, The Commonwealth Youth Circus presented walk-rounds and workshops around the shopping centre throughout the day to keep the well-wishers entertained.
Michelle McCabe, Centre Manager at The Avenue, said: “The day was a great success – the rain even stopped just as Russell arrived at The Avenue! An historic day at The Avenue, the feedback from shoppers and locals was fantastic – with families flocking to the mall to wave their flags, join in the celebrations and cheer on Russell.”
“And congratulations to Lorna McGill who won four premium tickets to the Common Wealth Games Opening Ceremony in our competition in conjunction with official sponsor AG Barr!”
The Avenue Shopping Centre, managed by commercial property consultants Lambert Smith Hampton, offers shoppers a warm and welcoming shopping experience conveniently located on the outskirts of Glasgow city centre.
