PEAT, an eight-week old kitten, is set to follow in the paws of one of the world’s most famous Distillery cats, Towser, taking up the much coveted role of Official Mouser at The Famous Grouse Experience at Glenturret Distillery.
This fluffy little member of the team, who is still – literally – trying to find his feet in his new role will be responsible for greeting over 100,000 visitors who tour the distillery every year and, as part of their experience, expect to meet the Distillery Cat.
While, unlike his predecessor, there’s no longer any need for him to hunt mice, Peat will get freedom to roam Glenturret Distillery’s grounds and may put his natural hunting instincts to the test. He’ll have a long way to go to catch up with Towser who still holds the Guinness World Record for best mouser, catching 28,899 mice in her 24 years at the distillery.
Towser’s Certificate is now proudly displayed on the wall as part of the Distillery’s recent £250,000 refurbishment which was officially opened by the Duke & Duchess of Cambridge on 29th May.
Peat is the latest feline to join Towser’s Team and replaces Barley, a resident tomcat who disappeared last winter and, despite repeated attempts to find him, has not returned.
Lesley Williamson, business development manager of The Famous Grouse Experience, commented:
“We were very sorry to lose Barley however the team are truly delighted to welcome Peat to our Glenturret Distillery family. The fluffy little bundle has already been charming his way into our visitors’ hearts this week, has already made himself at home in our new Tasting Bar and is showing signs of settling in nicely.”
