YOUNG drama enthusiasts in Edinburgh can still sign up for Scottish Youth Theatre’s Junior and Foundation Courses at the Festival Theatre.
Edinburgh teenager, Catherine Cranston (15), has won a place on the Foundation Course for young people aged 12-15, and hopes to follow in the footsteps of former Scottish Youth Theatre participants, such as Dr Who’s Karen Gillan from Inverness, and Hollywood actor Gerard Butler, originally from Paisley.
Catherine said: “Scottish Youth Theatre has helped me to build my confidence and make new friends.
“I am now more comfortable performing to an audience, and accepting and learning from constructive feedback. SYT is a great environment to develop new skills and learn from others to become a more confident person overall.”
Scottish Youth Theatre’s annual Summer Festival gives young people the opportunity to be creative, learn new skills and meet new friends from across the country.
One and two-week courses are available in Edinburgh. These fun and exciting introductory courses are open to complete beginners and include a final performance at the end of each course to an audience of family and friends.
The Foundation Course for ages 12-15 runs from 7 to 19 July and the Junior Course for ages 8-11 from 21 to 26 July at the Festival Theatre Edinburgh.
Cerin Richardson, learning and participation manager, Festival City Theatres Trust, said: “We are delighted to be hosting Scottish Youth Theatre’s Summer Festival courses again this year at the Festival Theatre, and value the part that SYT plays in supporting the learning and participation work for children and young people at the theatre.
“The continued relationship we have developed over many years, with SYT providing weekly creative opportunities for children and young people, is an important partnership for us.”
