Globally-renowned golf performers host special coaching session and put on mind-blowing trick show in support of Quarriers’ Coaching for Life initiative
WORLD Golf Trick Shot champion, Geoff Swain, and golf maestro, Kevin Carpenter – also known as the Golf Trick Shot Boys – brought their unique skills to The Kilmacolm Golf Club to help raise awareness of Quarriers’ Coaching for Life initiative as The 2014 Ryder Cup charity develops its sector-leading programme across Scotland.
Adopting similar principles to Coaching for Life, the Golf Trick Shot Boys shared their golfing wisdom, alongside Kilmacolm professional, Iain Nicholson, in a coaching session with a group of enthusiastic young people.
Then, with the majestic Ryder Cup Trophy present, the performers dazzled the sizeable crowd with a display of golfing prowess and trickery which has impressed audiences across the world, with fans including Ryder Cup stars Ian Poulter, Colin Montgomerie and Paul Casey.
As an official charity of The 2014 Ryder Cup, Quarriers is currently engaged in a major fundraising drive, with all money raised from its 2014 Ryder Cup Appeal benefitting the Coaching for Life initiative.
Coaching for Life offers support and guidance for young people who are facing disadvantages such as homelessness, leaving care, emotional trauma and neglected education.
Through the initiative, participating young people work with a dedicated Life Coach towards a more positive future, focusing on everything from participating in new activities to finding education or employment opportunities.
Funds raised through Quarriers’ 2014 Ryder Cup appeal is helping the charity deliver the initiative across the country, providing life changing opportunities for hundreds of young people.
Trish Godman, chair of Quarriers’ Board of Trustees, said: “It’s an absolute privilege to be an Official Charity of The 2014 Ryder Cup and we’re delighted to be affiliated with one of the world’s great sporting matches.
“Not every young person has the best start to life and our Coaching for Life initiative is the focus of our Ryder Cup Appeal. The Appeal has the potential to have a significant impact on hundreds of lives and we’ll be doing everything we can to ensure The 2014 Ryder Cup has a lasting legacy on Scotland’s young people.
“As we approach September, our activities are starting to pick up a pace and events like this and the support of those like the Golf Trick Shot Boys and Kilmacolm Golf Club is crucial in helping us meet our goals.”
Geoff Swain, of the Golf Trick Shot Boys, said: “It’s been a fantastic day and hopefully everyone has enjoyed it as much as we have. The show appears to have gone down well and I was particularly impressed by some of the skills on show during the coaching sessions.
“Quarriers does some excellent work across its services and we’re delighted to help its Ryder Cup Appeal in any way we can. Particularly when events are as fun as this!”
Edward Kitson, match director for The 2014 Ryder Cup, said: “Coaching for Life is a great initiative and we hope that Quarriers official association with The 2014 Ryder Cup will help it raise much needed funds through this event and others like it.
“Charity is a very important component of any Ryder Cup and the work Quarriers and our other official charities do will ensure a lasting legacy from The 2014 Ryder Cup for the young people of Scotland.”
