THE ANGUS Hotel in Blairgowrie will be flying the flag for Scotland this month, as the only Scottish hotel to be shortlisted for Accommodation Provider of the Year in the prestigious National Coach Tourism Awards, the final for which will be held in the auspicious surroundings of Blackpool Ballroom on 15th May.
The annual awards scheme, which is run by industry publication Coach Monthly, recognises excellence and innovation across the coach tour industry operators, accommodation providers and visitor attractions.
The coveted title was first introduced into the awards scheme in 2012 to fully recognise the contribution of independent hotels to the industry, and has so far only been won by Scottish hoteliers.
The Angus Hotel is one of five hotels shortlisted across the UK, and the only Scottish hotel to make it to the final this year.
Murray Scott, managing director of Scott Hotels, commented:
“This is a significant achievement for our team and I’m very proud of their achievements. To be the only hotel representing Scotland at the national awards is quite something and for the very many coach tours, and their customers, that we welcome to Scotland every week, we’re utterly delighted.”
The Angus Hotel has been under the management of the local Scott family since the mid-1950s, although its coaching ties harp back over 100 years as an original coaching inn at the heart of Blairgowrie, set in the same spot that the hotel still stands.
The team will have to wait a couple of weeks to find out if they can bring the trophy home to Scotland, and face tough competition in the category for the title of Accommodation Provider of the Year, with the Rendezvous Hotel in Skipton shortlisted in the category for a second year running.
