Media Release: Cairngorm windows receives top industry accolade

INVERNESS-based firm Cairngorm Windows has received a top industry accolade from the British Safety Institute.

The business, which employs 80 people across Inverness, is the second company in the UK to achieve European technical standards, qualifying the business for a coveted CE marking for its escape doors.

This accolade from the British Safety Institute has only been awarded to Cairngorm, along with a firm in Ayrshire, with the first English applicants going through the appraisal system.

It comes as Cairngorm has supplied 150 windows and 24 doors for new houses in the Falklands Islands.

The Highland firm will now pursue a UK-wide market for its emergency exit fitted hardware with its European Commission certificate.

Gaining CE status is a significant marketing boost for Cairngorm as it puts the finishing touches to a £350,000 extension to its Longman Road headquarters – which will include setting up a fitted kitchen division for the first time.

Managing director of Cairngorm Windows, David Dowling, said: “We are in the process of recruiting eight more staff to cope with the extension and the news of our joining the elite group with CE marking, something we have worked hard to attain, is a superb way to put us on the run-in for the extension opening on April 25.

“The CE status officially recognises the technical quality and safety of the PVC escape doors which we have developed here in Inverness. “It significantly strengthens our efforts to attack a UK-wide market and it emphasizes that customers can come to us for the most safe and secure products.

”Our heritage as a 60 year-old family-owned business is of huge importance to us, and is why we focus on the highest quality systems. This European accolade for escape doors is a perfect fit into that focus.”

All windows and doors manufactured by Cairngorm at its base in Inverness are now kitemark licensed, and meet or surpass the accreditations required for local authority projects as well as the commercial and domestic markets.

Mr Dowling said: ”We’ve had a highly positive reaction from the Falklands Islands to our latest £50,000 contract for there. As it is one of the windiest places in the world the islands need windows and doors that are totally wind and waterproof, and we’ve been supplying them for several years, generating regular repeat business.”
