ACTING and Performance students from Glasgow Clyde College are bringing the ancient Greek comedy, Lysistrata, to the stage.
The student production of Aristophanes’ battle of the sexes comedy will run from the 1st-3rd April at the 1586 Theatre – the College’s professional-standard theatre.
The college’s HND students will perform Germaine Greer’s version of the famous play. The original was given a modern rewrite by the feminist academic and journalist in 1972, and it has since been performed by theatre companies around the world.
Once described as ‘girl power in its original form’, it tells the story of one woman’s effort to end the Peloponnesian war by leading a female sex strike.
“A tale about women in a male-dominated society, the play tests the students’ comic skills. It’ll be very funny, very bawdy and not for the delicate,” said acting and performance lecturer, Marianne Harper.
“It’s very different from the students’ last production, The Wizard of Oz, but I’m certain it will be just as successful.”
Tickets are priced at £8 for concessions and £10 for adults, and can be booked through the Citizens Theatre box office.
