OBAN’S landmark McCaig’s Tower is joining Epilepsy Scotland’s campaign to Turn Scotland Purple on March 26.
This will help to highlight international Purple Day, which promotes fun filled ways to put epilepsy in the spotlight and show support for the 54,000 people who live in Scotland with this condition.
Campaign supporter, Fiona Bennett, who stays near Oban, has successfully achieved her aim to have this famous monument flood lit in purple.
She remarked: “I’ve meant to do something before to raise awareness since I have epilepsy myself. I saw Epilepsy Scotland’s campaign on facebook and decided it was a great idea and took up the challenge.
“The response from McCaig’s Tower has been amazing and I hope this Purple Day occasion gets people talking about epilepsy.”
Epilepsy Scotland chief executive, Lesslie Young, remarked: “We are excited that our social media campaign is inspiring people to ask for prominent landmarks to turn purple on March 26. This shade is the international colour associated with epilepsy.
“People can also wear purple to school or to work, or even fundraise for us by making purple-coloured cupcakes or tray bakes. There’s a free Purple Day pack to download showing how to get involved and become better informed about epilepsy.
“It’s time this often hidden and misunderstood condition came out of the shadows. In our 60th year, everyone can draw attention to epilepsy on March 26 by going purple-tastic!”
