AS the votes roll in for the 2014 Scottish Baker of the Year competition, renowned cake-designer and face of the competition, Mich Turner MBE, has called for everyone in Scotland to cast a vote for their favourite bakery product if it’s to make it to the finals and stand a chance of winning.
Everyone loves a tasty treat from their local baker.
With thousands upon thousands of scones, loaves, savoury items, morning rolls, individual cakes and biscuits sold in Scotland every day, our artisan bakers work hard to keep us all going.
For the first time in 2012, Scottish Bakers, the Trade Association for bakers in Scotland, decided to search for the best baker in the land and for the last two years the competition has been a huge success.
TV judge Mich, who will be presenting the awards which will be announced in May said: “As a cake designer to the stars, I have exacting standards and I can be a harsh critic but I have been really impressed by the quality and creativity Scottish bakers are demonstrating and I look forward to being surprised and delighted when I announce the winners in Glasgow.”
Last year, the competition received some 15,000 votes with some 200 bakers recognised and this year the competition organiser, Scottish Bakers, are hoping even more people will going online and vote to help celebrate the achievements of the 15,000 people who work in bakeries up and down the land.
There are six categories: best morning roll, bread, scone, savoury, individual cake and (I removed ‘from the first time) biscuit.
Simply log onto www.scottishbakers.org/scottishbakeroftheyear to vote for your favourite items and tell us why you love them to stand a chance of winning one of six iPad Minis.
Scottish Bakers was established in 1891 and since then have represented and promoted the interests of the bakery trade in Scotland.
They aim to be an integral part of each member’s business by providing support for Bakers of all sizes. They provide a valuable source of help, advice, information, assistance and skills development for bakers throughout Scotland.
Most importantly, Scottish Bakers belongs to its members and exist for their benefit.
