THE Enchanted Forest Nursery, located in Pottery Street, Greenock, played host to a very special guest when Minister for Children and Young People, Aileen Campbell MSP, met staff and children at the award-winning nursery on Tuesday 25 February 2014.
Alongside Bernie and Mariessa Devlin, owners and co-founding directors of the Enchanted Forest Nursery chain, Jennifer Marshall, Greenock Nursery manager, conducted a tour of the facilities which cares for 138 local children each week.
During the visit, the Minister was able to see first-hand the high standard of early years education delivered by the team and discuss both the Modern Apprentice scheme and the future of early years education in Scotland.
The Minister also assisted a group of children build structures in the sand, whilst observing free-flow continuous outdoor provision and participated in a Vygotsky literacy session for pre-schoolers.
Minister for Children and Young People, Aileen Campbell, said:
“It was great to join in the fun with the children at the Enchanted Forest Nursery.
“I also really enjoyed the opportunity to meet staff and hear first-hand about their experiences and how they see their career developing.
“We need to keep attracting talented and enthusiastic people in order to deliver our commitment to increasing the amount of flexible, quality childcare available to parents.
“That is why we are investing £4 million in the development and expansion of the early years workforce over the next two years.
“In addition, leading childcare expert Professor Iram Siraj will lead a review of the early years workforce to ensure the development of the workforce matches the scale of our ambition while ensuring quality of provision for children and families across Scotland.”
Mariessa Devlin. of Enchanted Forest Nurseries, commented:
“At a key time in Scottish education, when we are planning to embark on offering children 600 hours of fully funded pre-school education, it was a real pleasure to show the Minister the great work our staff do in delivering the highest possible standard of flexible childcare and education.
“As we are great supporters of the Modern Apprentice scheme, the Minister was also introduced to various staff members, including a number of who are either currently engaged in the training programme or now enjoy full time employment following their qualification.
“We showcased that our little people really do feel precious and that Enchanted Forest is one of the best places to grow up in.”
