A NEW, £2million development in Glasgow’s East End has been announced by major UK property company, MEPC.
The new purpose built 12,862 sqft building will be occupied by telecoms company BT for use as a technical facility for its engineering and training divisions. Around 50 staff are expected to be based at its new Clyde Gateway East premises.
Clyde Gateway East is a 36-acre business park being developed in partnership with Glasgow based SCOT Sheridan and Clyde Gateway URC. Building works will commence in May and are expected to be completed by the end of 2014.
The Park is already home to international oilfield specialist Glacier Energy Services and PF Cusack, one of the UK’s leading suppliers of contractors’ tools, personal protective equipment, signage and traffic management products.
Jamie Cumming, commercial director for MEPC in Scotland, said: “The recent transformation of Glasgow’s East End has been remarkable and MEPC are delighted to be part of the award winning regeneration programme. BT is one of the country’s biggest businesses and their desire to have a new facility at Clyde Gateway East is testament to the quality and strength of this location.”
James McClafferty, BT Scotland partnerships director, said: “This is the ideal location for us, providing a technical base for engineering operations close to our customers and with significant external space that we can use for practical purposes. As a major employer in Glasgow, with some 2,000 employees in the city, we’re looking forward to moving in to this additional accommodation and supporting the important, ongoing regeneration of the Clyde Gateway area.”
Jamie Cumming added: “Clyde Gateway East’s location is just 300 yards from the M74 meaning it has easy access to a road network providing quick access to the rest of Scotland and directly to the south of the border and that is highly desirable for many businesses. We have over 250,000 sqft planned for the next phase so we are in a strong position to work with large and small organisations to create new facilities matching their specific requirements.
“The East End of Glasgow also benefits from having a local organisation like Jobs & Business Glasgow available to help with training and recruitment. This benefits companies based at Clyde Gateway East and the overall regeneration of the area.”
MEPC manages some of the UK’s best known commercial property, with seven Business Estates [including Hillington Park] set in prime locations throughout the UK. Together they provide over 7million sqft of high quality space for more than 1,000 organisations, employing over 21,500 people. With a portfolio in excess of £700 million, it stands as a leader in its field.
