AUCHRANNIE Resort on the Isle of Arran has announced details of further expansion which will see an additional 20 bedrooms added this winter.
The company is planning on investing £2.3million this winter in a major project which in addition to building new bedrooms will also see investment in new staff accommodation, biomass and an extension to the recently acquired Arran Adventure facility.
The new guest accommodation will be constructed and internally finished, at the factory of Wishaw-based main contractor, Enemetric.
The 44 ‘pod’ building will then be loaded onto lorries for transportation to Arran where it will be craned into position before services are hooked up and external finishes applied.
Once the project completes next Spring, it will mean Auchrannie has invested close to £4.8million since 2010.
As a result of the new bedrooms, turnover in 2014/15 is expected to reach £6.0million, compared to the £4.8million reported in the 2012/13 financial year.
The company has seen a strong increase in demand over the last 12 months with average annual occupancy growing from 70 per cent to almost 85 per cent.
Next year’s introduction of the road equivalent tariff (RET) on the ferries serving Arran is expected to provide a further boost to demand from travellers.
Linda Johnston, executive director, commented: “Expansion of our room stock will help the resort to achieve sustainability, putting more guests on site to use the extensive facilities we have invested in over the last few years.”
