STV weather presenter, Sean Batty, and showbiz reporter, Laura Boyd, hail new partnership
THERE’S real driving force behind the new STV Glasgow app after Glasgow Taxis Ltd wrapped three vehicles to help promote the digital service dedicated to the city.
STV weather presenter, Sean Batty, and the station’s showbiz reporter, Laura Boyd, teamed up with city cabbies to help promote the new partnership.
Just last month, STV launched its brand new digital service providing all the latest news, events, offers, pictures and videos for consumers in Glasgow.
Now three iconic vehicles of Glasgow Taxis, which has its own booking app for customers, are helping spread the word of the new STV Glasgow app across city streets, 24 hours-a-day, seven days-a-week.
Sean Batty said: “I’m a huge fan of Glasgow Taxis – I’ll be using plenty of them to get around safely over Christmas – so it’s great to see STV Glasgow’s exciting new app being promoted in this innovative way.”
Laura Boyd added: “The new STV Glasgow app has a real emphasis on events and special offers and few people know Glasgow better than our cabbies – in fact, the back of a cab is a great place to catch up on all the latest news and nights out.”
Both the new STV Glasgow app and the Glasgow Taxis Ltd apps are free to download and use on iOS and Android devices, with STV Glasgow accompanied by desktop and mobile sites.
Glasgow Taxis Ltd vice-chair, Stephen Flynn, said: “A growing number of customers of Glasgow Taxis are booking using our very own customised app, so we are fully aware of the importance of embracing new media, especially to reach young audiences.
“STV is a Glasgow institution and one that we have worked closely with over a number of years. We are delighted to partner with them on this initiative and look forward to seeing more of Sean and Laura over the busy festive period.”
Key features of the STV Glasgow app include a constantly updated feed of everything happening in the city, including breaking news, the latest on social media, travel, weather and upcoming events.
The best places to eat are listed along with great daily offers, reviews from real customers, simple table booking and even directions to get there. Trailers, reviews and show times for all the latest movies, and what’s on listings for all major venues, means consumers never have to miss anything in their city again.
By saving ideas for places to eat and things to do in a ‘favourites’ section, users can easily personalise the app to ensure they always have the most relevant and up-to-date information right at their fingertips.
The recent launch marks the next generation of STV’s digital services and reinforces its commitment to serving local audiences across Scotland. STV currently broadcast News at Six in Glasgow, Aberdeen and Edinburgh, with a bulletin for the Dundee and Tayside area, and will launch two new city TV channels for Glasgow and Edinburgh in 2014.
David Milne, head of digital publishing at STV, said: “The new city services further strengthen STV’s portfolio of digital offerings for online consumers.
“We have developed a fun, engaging and relevant platform to help people in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Dundee get the most out of their city, covering everything from breaking news and top events to daily deals and reviews.
“The concept behind these new services is ‘your city in your hand’ and we hope the apps will inspire with great ideas for going out, eating and exploring Scotland’s four biggest cities, with information and offers always kept up to date by STV’s team of dedicated journalists.”
The apps are free to download and use and now available from the App Store and Google Play and available on desktop and mobile sites. To download the apps, visit http://cities.stv.tv.
