Media Release: Tune in to tourism expertise

LEADING experts in tourism are taking part in a new series of free online discussions over the next few weeks as the highly successful Tourism Intelligence Scotland webinars return.

Organised by Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE), the webinars bring together some of the best tourism businesses who will share their insights and give practical tips on how to capitalise on Scotland’s growth markets.

Covering Events and Festivals, Business Tourism and Film Tourism, this latest series has a great cast of experts ready to help businesses across Scotland maximise their potential.

Our latest series is designed for anyone involved in tourism in Scotland, including community groups and tourism-related businesses, who want to look at how to make the most of events and festivals, film tourism and business tourism.

The first of four weekly live presentations starts on Wednesday 20 November and will focus on Events and Festivals with guest speakers Joe Gibbs of Belladrum Festival and Mike Story of the Argyll and the Islands Strategic Tourism Partnership.

They will explore how tourism businesses and festival organisers can best work together to maximise economic benefits and boost the profile of Scotland in 2014 and beyond.

This will be followed by Business Tourism, hosted by Judy Rae of Glasgow Science Centre and Scott Robertson of Hello Scotland. According to VisitScotland figures, business tourism is worth £1.9bn to the Scottish economy. This webinar will look at the potential of this vitally important market to both urban and rural businesses and look at the relationships between businesses and agents.

Finally, Film Tourism is split into two parts over two weeks. Part one is hosted by Suzanne Reid of Capricorn Film Productions and Brodie Pringle of Creative Scotland.

This webinar will focus on how businesses can get involved in the film making process and the opportunities to pursue.

Part two, on Wednesday 11 Dec, will be hosted by Anna Rathaband of the National Trust for Scotland and Jenni Steele of VisitScotland, focusing on marketing, promoting and providing the experience visitors interested in TV and film locations are looking for.

Audrey Maclennan, senior tourism manager at HIE, said: “Over 2,000 participants have already taken part in previous Tourism Intelligence Scotland webinars, hearing first hand from industry experts on ways to help their business.

“The webinars are full of practical tips. Businesses can hear about key trends and market opportunities, learn what others have done successfully and ask questions, all online and without having to leave their business.”

Each webinar starts at 9.30am and lasts for 45 minutes, with no transport required.
