Media Release: Significant investment bolsters North-east haulage firm

AN award-winning North-east haulage firm has made a £300,000 investment in its fleet.

Grampian Continental, which is based in Kinellar, Aberdeenshire, and employs 102 staff and drivers, has purchased three new vehicles and refurbished existing ones. The investment will allow the organisation to provide increased support to its European bases and increases the number of vehicles and loaders being operated by Grampian Continental to over 50.

Amongst the enhancements to the fleet is the purchase of two supercube trailers, which provide enough room to ship almost 30 per cent more volume than standard trailers.

The firm’s latest announcement follows significant improvements to its headquarters earlier this year, with a £400,000 investment upgrading both security and site interiors at its 1.5-acre Kinellar base.

Grampian Continental, which has a turnover of around £15 million per year, currently has five premises spread across Europe and has recently opened bases in Bedlington, Newcastle, and Verona, Italy.

Sales director at Grampian Continental, Gavin Murray, said: “This was a necessary investment due to the significant growth that we have experienced in recent months and it demonstrates that Grampian Continental is committed to continuing to provide world class service in light of increased demand.

“Not only can Grampian Continental call upon three new vehicles, but this investment also includes the purchase of two supercube trailers, which allows us to ship increased quantities for our clients. This extra capacity is a fantastic addition to the services that we provide and gives us a competitive advantage over other haulage firms.

“Whilst these new vehicles and associated improvements will predominantly support our European operations, they will also give us greater scope to provide more support to our local clients, which is vital as we look to facilitate sustained growth in the coming months and years.”

Grampian Continental was launched in 2009 and manages imports and exports across the UK, Europe and North Africa for more than 500 customers in the oil and gas sector. The firm operates a varied modern fleet with the capacity to transport a diverse range of loads, from 1KG up to more complex loads, including 80 tonne offshore structures.
