A GROUP of singers, musicians and a local record producer have come together to write, perform and release a song to raise funds for Shelter Scotland – the housing and homelessness charity.
Produced by Andy Haldane (45) – a music producer from Cambuslang, the song ‘(All I Need Is) A Little Shelter’, features 25 musicians and vocalists.
Artists to appear on the new single include X Factor’s Melanie Masson, Katie Sutherland who had a hit with ‘Because I do’ in 2009, River City’s Tom Urie, Mary Kiani who had several solo hits in the 90s and also sang ‘Real Love’ for TTF.
Crystal Blakk who is a novelist from Essex and members of the Soul Nation Choir also appear in the charity song.
The tune is part of a wider fundraising effort by Andy, who has also vowed to eat breakfast outside for one year to help the housing and homelessness charity.
During his challenge, the keen fundraiser will eat 365 bowls of muesli in his back garden in all weathers to highlight the plight of those facing housing and homelessness difficulties.
Andy said: “Within minutes of appealing for artists to help out with the song on social media, I received a fantastic response back. All the musicians gave their time absolutely free and the single and video cost nothing to make.
“The quality of vocals on the new single is outstanding and it’s a great sing-a-long number, which will appeal to both young and old alike.
“If the single helps just one homeless person, it will have been all worthwhile and a great achievement. I would urge all those who are interested in helping people with housing and homeless problems to download a copy and join in the fun while you can.”
Graeme Brown, director of Shelter Scotland, added: “Andy and his friends have done a great job on this record and it would be great to see it get to number one in the charts.
“Everyone who buys this record will be donating to a great cause, helping families and individuals who are facing homelessness and bad housing.
“And every penny raised from the song will go towards helping the very people who are in need.”
The song is also due to be sung by football fans at Dunfermline Athletic Football Club on Saturday 19 October.
The charity song ‘(All I Need Is) A Little Shelter’ will be released on Monday 28 October and is available to download on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify and almost every major online music outlet.
