GLENAPP Castle, the five-star Relais & Châteaux hotel in South Ayrshire, Scotland, has just been awarded a Michelin Star with their new head chef, Matt Worswick.
On hearing the news, Matt said: “This is really fantastic! I can’t believe it and it will take some time for it to sink in properly. I am so pleased for the team and want to thank them for all their hard work and support.”
Glenapp’s owners, Graham and Fay Cowan, said today: “We are really delighted for Matt and his team in the kitchen.
“They have all worked really hard and this award is fantastic recognition for all their dedication and commitment to producing such a high standard of cuisine for our guests.
“It is a particularly notable achievement for Matt as he just turned 26 in August and is possibly the youngest head chef in the UK to hold a Michelin Star.”
Adds a spokesperson: “The coveted Michelin Star award is Glenapp Castle’s third major accolade this month. Earlier this week, the castle was awarded three AA Rosettes as well as retaining its five Red Star Award at the prestigious AA Awards in London and we were awarded a ‘six’ in the Good Food Guide.
“Inclusion in the world famous Michelin Guide is free of charge and completely at the discretion of the editor and his team of anonymous inspectors who make regular unannounced visits to hotels and restaurants.
“To maintain complete independence, inspectors pay their bills in full, and often do not even reveal their identity when they leave.
“Readers of the guide are also invited to make comments and suggestions about restaurants and hotels they visit.
“The guide rates establishments according to their level of luxury, comfort and service, as well as cuisine and only those chefs who really excel within their category will receive the ultimate accolade of a Michelin star.”
The castle is open to non-resident diners for lunch, afternoon tea or dinner. A prior reservation is required.
