SCOTTISH Bakers were delighted to be recognised for the quality of training provided to all of the staff in Browning’s the Bakers at the Scottish Training Federation Awards which took place at a glittering ceremony in the Crieff Hydro.
Scottish Bakers and Browning’s the Bakers, based in Kilmarnock, have developed a training partnership that has delivered significant benefits to 306 employees which has assisted the company to grow and increase their customer base.
John Gall, managing director of Browning’s the Bakers,was delighted with the award. He said: “The importance of having highly skilled staff cannot be stressed enough. Our customers consistently demand high quality products and we recognise that to achieve this we must consistently develop all of our people in the business.”
Scottish Bakers are a major provider of bakery training and qualifications throughout the UK.
They have worked closely with Skills Development Scotland (SDS) to contribute to the Skills Investment Plan for the food and Drink sector and are a source of information on skills development and Government funded programmes to the bakery sector, as well as a recognised provider of Modern Apprenticeships at levels 2 and 3.
Gerry McBride, industry manager for Food & Drink at SDS, said: “The food and drink sector is extremely important to the Scottish economy and we are delighted to support the partnership approach taken by Scottish Bakers with industry.
“The number of people who have gained nationally recognised Modern Apprenticeship qualifications is a credit to both of the partners.”
Chief executive of Scottish Bakers, Alan Clarke, was delighted with the achievement.
“He said: “The work that Skills Development Scotland do in the food and drink sector has to be commended and being recognised in partnership with Browning’s the Bakers for the quality of training that we provide is a great testament to the quality of bakery trainers that we employ.”
Browning’s the Bakers was established in 1945 and are the largest craft bakery in the West of Scotland, supplying ten company owned retail units and over 250 wholesale customers with day fresh bakery products. Their customer base has grown to include independent grocers, national symbol groups, corporate caterers, supermarkets and hotels.
