THE Scottish business of one of the UK’s biggest construction and services companies has been given the top industry accolade for its health and safety procedures for the third year in a row.
Representatives of Kier collected the Gold Award from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents at a ceremony in the Hilton Hotel in Glasgow on Thursday 19 September.
It is the third time that Kier’s Scottish business has been recognised at this level, not just for its exemplary safety record but also for its approach to health and safety as a whole.
And Kier’s regional operations director responsible for health and safety, Roland Duncan, said:
“At Kier, health and safety is of prime importance. It is top of the agenda at all our management meetings and we have very robust systems in place to ensure that every one of our staff and all on-site contractors adhere to our health and safety procedures.
“From induction programmes, on-site health and safety champions, ongoing training and poster campaigns, we use every possible means to ensure that all staff are equally committed to keeping our sites as safe as possible.”
The RoSPA Awards scheme is the largest and longest-running programme of its kind in the UK.
David Rawlins, RoSPA’s awards manager said: “RoSPA firmly believes that organisations that demonstrate commitment to continuous improvement in accident and ill health prevention deserve recognition.
“Kier’s Scottish business has shown that it is committed to striving for such continuous improvement and we are delighted to honour it through the presentation of a Gold Award.”
