TWO dozen bright sparks from ScottishPower blazed a trail at Forth Valley College’s Falkirk Campus recently when they began 20 weeks of intensive training.
The batch of apprentice electrical engineers will be taught essential skills – to City and Guilds level – by the college’s expert lecturers to prepare them for moving on to another 20 week training stint at ScottishPower’s own training facility in Cumbernauld.
FVC’s links with ScottishPower are growing stronger each year with three groups of trainees attending last year; a planned seven groups this year and the opportunity for more in the future.
Barkha Pabra, a curriculum manager in FVC’s Electrical Engineering Department, said: “We are delighted to have strong links with ScottishPower and we are excited by lots more apprentices coming along to learn at our college over the next few years. We are really looking forward to working with them even more closely on this great business and educational opportunity.”
Mairi Elder, ScottishPower workforce programmes manager, said: “A total of 48 apprentices are starting this week 24 here in Forth Valley College and 24 in college in Manchester. Most of the batch starting here are from the Central Scotland area with a few from the Dumfries area.
“This is the first time in ten years we have had an intake such as this of new apprentices. I think it is really important to strengthen our existing partnership with Forth Valley College and we are delighted that our new intake will get the best possible initial training here at the FVC Falkirk Campus.”
