COUNCILLOR, Liz Grant, Provost of Perth & Kinross will open Scotland’s first Cycletta, arguably the UK’s leading cycling series especially for women, this Sunday morning in the historic grounds of Scone Palace in Perthshire.
The event series, which is backed by Olympian Victoria Pendleton CBE, and supported by Spice Girls’ Melanie C, has attracted over 600 participants in its first year proving there’s no shortage of girl power to pedal this cycling series to success.
Commenting on the event, the Provost said: “I am delighted to welcome the Cycletta series to Scotland and to Perthshire. Perth & Kinross has a long history of leading the field when it comes to world class sporting events.
“We continue to develop on the strength of our event offering by playing host to major events such as Etape Caledonia, the first ever closed road cycling event in Britain, and the world’s greatest golf match, The Ryder Cup in 2014.
“It is simply fantastic to know that so many ladies will be travelling from around Scotland this Sunday to take to Perthshire’s roads on two wheels and I very much look forward to cheering them all on from the start line.”
Commenting, Nick Rusling, CEO of event organisers, Human Race, said: “We’re now counting down the hours to the first Cycletta event in Scotland and I’m delighted that the Provost has agreed to formally open the event for us.
“We expect over 600 ladies to cross the start line on Sunday morning and so far the signs are that the Autumnal Scottish weather will be kind to us.”
Cycletta Scotland is open to ladies aged 12 and upwards and includes different distances starting from just 20km.
They also have a bike hire option so there’s not even a requirement to own your own bike!
For those ladies wanting to set themselves a bigger challenge there is a Classic distance of 40 km and, for those who want to push themselves that little bit further, a Challenge distance of 63km.
Last minute entries are available on the day.
Organisers recommend you come early to ensure registration in time for the start.
