THIS summer, Meravista is offering €100 for the best photograph of an Algarve chimney. The competition is open to professional and aspiring photographers.
Meravista, a property website dedicated to Algarve property in Portugal, has set a challenge for photography enthusiasts this summer.
Photographers of all skill levels are invited to get their cameras out and capture a quirky, eccentric, ornate, bizarre or beautiful Algarve chimney. Whether you’re a professional behind the lens, a true shutterbug or an occasional snapper, you stand to win €100 in cash if your shot is chosen.
Anita van Huson, co-founder of Meravista, explains why she chose chimneys: “There are some stunning old chimneys around the Algarve. That’s because, in years gone by, chimneys were a statement of wealth and standing in the community here. The value of a chimney was calculated by the number of days it took to build. Intricate designs that took many days to construct were an indication of the home owner’s prosperity.”
The competition closes on 31st August 2013 and the winner will be announced in a September 1st blog post on the Meravista site. There are no set rules for entering, other than the photograph has to be of an Algarve chimney and it has to be an original photograph by the entrant. A stork nesting on the top or a decorative Santa Claus left over from Christmas could well add to the chances of winning.
