ONE of Scotland’s brightest young companies has won the esteemed regional Local Business Accelerator (LBA) award for Edinburgh.
Bright Red Publishing, along with other finalists, Shop Scotland and Greatbase, took part in a Dragons’ Den-style panel of Scottish business leaders including Kwik Fit founder, Sir Tom Farmer, and won free advertising worth £10,000.
Now crowned as the overall winner, Bright Red will go on to represent Edinburgh in the National LBA Awards, where they could win the chance to be mentored by Deborah Meaden, one of the stars of the actual TV’s Dragons’ Den, a free advertising campaign and a £10,000 cash prize.
Since applying for the competition, Bright Red has seen a 40 per cent increase in the number of people visiting their website and advanced orders have doubled for their highly anticipated National 5 Study Guides – set to be published in August.
The brand new books will be supported by a ‘Digital Zone’, designed in collaboration with Edinburgh Napier University, to bring learning to life. Students will be able to explore a wealth of information and test their knowledge in this fully interactive resource.
Bright Red’s John MacPherson commented: “We are absolutely delighted to have won through to this stage of the competition, and to be representing Edinburgh in the LBA awards.
“It’s a great achievement for an independent, home-grown publisher and we can’t wait for the finals in the autumn. We really have bucked the trends since start up in 2008 and these awards are great recognition of the hard work we have put in.”
