FORTH Valley College has just received a prestigious award from the forward thinking BRITE Initiative.
Says a spokesperson: “FVC became the first ever college to receive the Investors in Inclusiveness (IiI) CharterMark at a special event held at Coatbridge College on Friday 31 May.
“FVC staff are delighted that their commitment to being inclusive has been recognised after the BRITE team rigorously evaluated the inclusiveness of every aspect of the organisation.”
On presenting the CharterMark to FVC, Alison Cox – director of the BRITE Initiative – said: “This award is given in recognition of the college’s commitment to being an inclusive organisation.
“The CharterMark underpins quality improvement across all areas and provides a thorough framework for evaluating standards. BRITE staff found many examples of good practice in Forth Valley College – and this outcome is well-deserved.”
With core funding from the Scottish Funding Council, BRITE’s innovative and nationally accredited training programmes have been developing the professionalism of individuals (lecturers, technicians, assessors, support workers, student service managers and advisers) and building the capacity of organisations (colleges, universities, employers and training providers) for more than a decade.
FVC associate principal with responsibility for the Alloa Campus, Andrew Lawson, said: “We are delighted to receive this recognition of all the hard work our staff have put in to make sure inclusiveness becomes second nature within the college.
“This approach is undoubtedly the way forward for the further and higher education sectors in Scotland and we are excited to be leading the way. However, we will not be resting on our laurels and will be looking to build on what we have already accomplished.”
FVC equalities manager, Mhairi Shillinglaw, who leads on equalities and inclusion in the college, said: “It is an honour to be the first college in the country to be awarded with the BRITE Investors in Inclusiveness CharterMark and it is something I and my colleagues are very proud of.
“The training provided by BRITE has been excellent and as well as benefitting the students who attend the college, it has enhanced the staff’s own professional development.
“The college as a whole has always been mindful of respect, equality and diversity and we are delighted to learn more ways to promote inclusiveness.”
