Media Release: Tourism is key drive for North-east farm

Local Food Finalists 2011, Andrew and Debbie Booth

AN Aberdeenshire farm store and coffee shop has been shortlisted for a prestigious food and drink award in recognition of its commitment to drive tourism in its local area.

The Store, based in Foveran on the outskirts of Aberdeen, is a family-run farm and farm store which has been named as a finalist in this year’s Scotland Food and Drink Excellence Awards, in the Food and Drink Tourism category.

The awards recognise and reward the very best in Scottish food and drink across 17 categories.

The business is run by husband and wife team, Andrew and Debbie Booth, who also manage the nearby Westfield Farm, and share a strong focus on the local community and local produce.

On-site, the business has its own butchery, kitchen, coffee shop and farm store giving it the ability to offer more to its customer.

The business is very active in promoting national campaigns such as National Breakfast Week to promote healthy and nutritional breakfasts to school pupils, as well as supporting UK open farm days where the farm opens its gates to the public and offer visitors tours around its premises.

The Store has the ability to offer 100 per cent traceability of its Aberdeen Angus beef from farm to fork, as everything is done on site at its premises. The Store’s managing director and farmer, Andrew Booth, has actively campaigned to highlight the importance of the traceability of British meat.

The business was even featured on BBC’s farming and countryside programme, Landward, regarding the extensive inspections that British farmers have to go through to get their produce on shop shelves.

Mr  Booth, said: “We are delighted to have reached the finals of the awards this year and it is a fantastic achievement for the entire team. We work hard to achieve our relaxed atmosphere and we are always very keen to take part in campaigns to help the farming industry and the local community.”

As part of The Store’s vision, they strive to offer natural, high quality produce. The Aberdeen Angus cattle reared on the farm are on a year round grass diet, which ensures the beef is less wasteful, tastier and natural.

The Store also source small artisan local products to stock in its farm store to offer customers a wider product range whilst supporting smaller, local businesses.

The winners of the awards will be announced at a ceremony on Thursday 30 May at The Assembly Rooms in Edinburgh.

The Store is open seven days a week 10am – 5pm. To find out more about The Store, contact 01358 788083 or visit www.thestorecompany.co.uk.
