CONTINUING tonight and for the rest of the week on BBC Two at 6.30pm, Tom Kitchin, one of the UK’s most renowned chefs, continues his quest to find his protege from a selection of talented Perth College UHI students.
Michelin-starred chef Tom himself trained at Perth College UHI and is looking for a young student to take under his wing, someone he can mentor and inspire, eventually becoming his protégé later in the programme.
A cooking competition like no other, The Chef’s Protege, centres on the relationship between apprentice and master. Over 20 episodes the series shows the day-to-day reality of the cooking industry and how the masters of today can nurture stars of tomorrow.
Ian Gibb, Perth College UHI hospitality subject leader said: “I am so proud of the students who have featured in the series and I’m delighted they’re flying the flag for Scotland, Perth and the college.
“The students managed the pressure with true resilience and the experience was fantastic. I believe this is credit to our style of learning and teaching; we do a great job to develop each of our students to reach their full potential and the training they experience at Perth is evident in terms of having the right employability skills to gain a successful career within the hospitality industry.
“Yes, there have been tears, and there will be more, but that is due to the passion our students have and demonstrate consistently – we want them to do well and succeed -and they do too!
“I must also congratulate Tom, he demonstrated a consistent, supportive approach, with constructive feedback which the students really did appreciate and will be of great benefit to them in the future.
“The Chefs Protege experience will stay with the students for life and hopefully they will follow in Tom’s very successful footsteps.”
