Media Release: Clyde 1 extends its lead as largest commercial radio station in Scotland

CLYDE 1 is proud to confirm it has extended its position as the number one radio station** in Scotland.

Says a spokesperson: “The overall listening of Radio Clyde has grown since this time last year, improving its position against competitors significantly and now reaching 661,000 adult listeners. This is an increase of more than 11 per cent on the same time period last year, and combined with growth in time spent tuned in, Radio Clyde commands a market leading 20 per cent share of overall listening.

“In an incredibly crowded and increasingly competitive marketplace, the prominence of the Radio Clyde brand, with a strong, well-focused local proposition, is the stand out choice for audiences, remaining as relevant today as at any time throughout the station’s 40 years of broadcasting.

“Clyde 1 continues to vastly out-pace the competition with more than double the amount of listening hours than its nearest commercial competitor** in Glasgow and the West. Listening hours have increased as a result of well-tailored competitions and promotions, great music and local personality driven shows. Listening hours have increased by more than 34 per cent in the last 12 months.

“Cementing its place at the top, Bowie at Breakfast pulls further away from the competition adding 82,000 new listeners in the past 12 months. The show now connects with 358,000 listeners each week.

“Clyde 1 Superscoreboard continues to command the envious position of being the only weeknight sports show on the dial – Mon – Fri (6-8pm) and has grown its audience by 18,000 to 202,000 listeners in the last twelve months. Increased time spent listening has delivered an eight-point increase in market share and gives the show a record breaking 26 per cent share of the available audience – its highest-ever recorded share of listening.

“Clyde 2’s revitalisation is taking positive shape with a marked improvement in listening hours since last year, growing by nearly 16 per cent. A strong focus on connecting with its target audiences through a revamped music, content and product offering will see further exciting innovations in the coming months.”

Graham Bryce, managing director, Bauer Media Scotland, said:

“We are delighted to extend our lead as the number one station for Glasgow and the West, engaging more listeners than anyone else with our unique blend of locally tailored entertaining content.

“Our audiences know they can count on Clyde 1 and Clyde 2 to always bring them the most relevant and best hit music, showbiz, news and sport, tailored specifically for them.

“Not only are our stations proving the most potent via traditional broadcast channels, our commitment to multimedia content and delivering compelling stories via digital platforms is paying off with surging growth in interaction via our app, Facebook, Twitter and station websites.

“With stand-out station activity in the form of Every Day is Payday in January, Bowie at Breakfast, and our Superscoreboard team’s award winning coverage of the Rangers story, our stations are quite rightly the number one choice for audiences across Glasgow and the West.

“Our relentless focus on delivering a product that connects more deeply with both our commercial partners and our audiences is proving to be a winning formula.”
