A PARTNERSHIP agreement which will deliver aviation maintenance courses to Malaysians has been set up to address the current lack of industry opportunities in Asia.

The Memorandum of Understanding between Air Service Training (AST), a wholly owned subsidiary of Perth College UHI and one of the most recognised aviation schools in the world, Sabah Air Aviation and A3 Education and Training, based in Malaysia will support the formation of an aviation training centre, providing students with the education and training to enter the aerospace industry as qualified engineers.

Peter Farrow, AST chief executive, explained: “This partnership will give youngsters leaving school the opportunity of entering the fascinating world of aviation without leaving their country.  This programme will not bring jobs to the students, but a career instead.”

AST, founded in 1931 has been the preferred training provider of international companies and airlines in the world including Oman Air, Royal Brunei Airlines, Cathay Pacific, British Airways, Malaysia Airlines and Bristow Helicopters Ltd.

It also provides aircraft engineer licencing for several military and governmental organisations such as Royal Flight of Oman, Kuwait Air Force, Bahrain Defence Force, United Arab Emirates Air Force and Air Defence, Kuwait Ministry of Interior and British Army Air Corps.
