A NORTH-EAST fish and chip shop is urging its local community to show their support by voting for the business in a top industry award.
The Bay Fish and Chips of Stonehaven, has been nominated in this year’s Footprint Awards, in The Community Vote Award category for its continued commitment to operating in a greener manner.
The Bay, which was this year named the UK’s No1 fish and chip shop, is one of 12 nominated businesses, and the only fish and chip shop in the category.
The Footprint Awards celebrates the achievements of businesses in the foodservice industry for their commitment to safeguarding the environment.
The Bay is urging the people of the North-east to show their support and cast their vote through the Footprint Awards website.
The multi-award winning chipper, has been highly recognised and received many accolades in other top industry and environmental awards over the last 18 months, which has helped place them in a leading position within its industry.
The Bay is a leader in promoting sustainability in the fish and chip industry and was the first fish and chip shop to receive the MSC chain of custody giving them 100 per cent traceability of its North Sea Haddock from sea to plate.
The Bay is also amongst the most highly-rated restaurants in the UK from the Sustainable Restaurant Association (SRA).
The Bay operates a zero waste to landfill business recycling all waste oil to bio diesel and all food waste, coffee granules and packaging to compost in turn closing the recycling loop.
Owner of The Bay, Calum Richardson, said: “It is a great honour to be nominated for this award. It gives us further recognition for our commitment to offering a sustainable service to customers.
“The awards are very well received and attract a lot of big names, so to be named amongst these is an honour. It further helps us in our aim to showcase the industry in a more sustainable light.”
