HAVING spent 12 years in senior roles at The Mary Erskine School in Edinburgh, Andrea Angus recently relocated north to take up the post of head of Senior School at Robert Gordon’s College.
Growing up in the Scottish capital, Mrs Angus has many fond memories of her time as a pupil at the school where she soon developed a love of mathematics.
She studied at the University of Edinburgh and Cardiff, taking up her first teaching post at King Edward IV School in Southampton.
Her career spans 28 years of teaching in schools and colleges, day and boarding, both within the independent and state sectors.
Arriving in January, Mrs Angus said: “I was attracted to Robert Gordon’s by its great tradition of academic excellence whilst also offering an exceptional range of extracurricular opportunities and experiences for the pupils.
“Working with a strong team of highly professional teachers and talented pupils, I am delighted to be part of such a happy and purposeful community.
“Having spent family holidays travelling around Scotland, I look forward to exploring this beautiful part of the country with my family.”
Talking about the future, Mrs Angus commented: “There is a real buzz around the school as we further develop our facilities in order to deepen and enhance the educational experience of the pupils.
“Our plans for a digital campus, greening the Quadrangle and building the new Science and Technology Centre and performing arts facilities will transform the college, strengthen links with the business community and contribute to a fantastic resource for the school as well as the wider community of the city of Aberdeen, the Shire and beyond.”
Head of College, Mr Hugh Ouston, said: “Robert Gordon’s College has been fortunate to add such an experienced professional to our management team.
“Mrs Angus shares the school’s clear vision of educating the whole child and she has already hit the ground running in her leadership role.
“It is a pleasure to work with her and the energetic Senior School management team on the exciting challenges the College has set itself.”
Mrs Angus adds: “I have been preparing for the move to Aberdeen since summer last year, communicating with my new colleagues remotely as well as attending various events within the Gordon’s community.
“It is clear to me that the staff here at Gordon’s are passionate about educating pupils for the future and there is a strong and loyal global community of pupils, past and present, who are very proud of their heritage.”
Mrs Angus is settling in to life in the heart of the city with her husband and two daughters.
