PREPARATIONS are in full swing for this year’s annual investor showcase – EIE13 - with a call for all informatics, computer science, energy and life science start-ups, spinouts and new ventures in Scotland to apply before January 31 to take part in Scotland’s flagship investor event.
EIE13 will take place at the Assembly Rooms in Edinburgh on Thursday May 9 and applications to be considered for this year’s event can be made at www.eie13.com.
Informatics Ventures intends to double the size of the event, following new strategic partnerships with Edinburgh BioQuarter and the Edinburgh Centre for Carbon Innovation (ECCI).
The three organisations have joined forces to create what will be the largest investor showcase in Scotland.
Said a spokesperson: “For the first time there will be more than 60 innovative companies from all over Scotland exhibiting across the informatics, energy and life science sectors. The companies will have the chance to meet with over 100 investors from the UK, Europe and the USA, to help transform their commercial propositions into successful ventures.
“Now in its sixth year, the event will include pitches from 16 carefully-selected new ventures, as well as networking opportunities. Keynote speakers for 2013 will feature Scottish entrepreneur, Sir Tom Hunter and angel investor, Sherry Coutu, voted as one the top 25 ‘most influential people in the wired world’.”
Commenting on the search for new companies, Gordon Stuart, of Informatics Ventures, said: “Once again we’re looking to uncover companies with global growth potential and ensure they have a place at EIE13 to meet potential investors.
“Since the inaugural event in 2008, we have introduced well over 150 start-ups to investors and these companies have gone on to raise tens of millions of pounds worth of seed funding.
“EIE13 will be the biggest and best to date thanks to our new strategic partnerships and sponsors, Johnston Carmichael and MBM, together we will be able to showcase even more businesses and attract larger numbers of investors, from individuals to angel groups and venture capitalists to our event.”
