AN award-winning Portlethen company is broadening staff knowledge of the industry, thanks to in-house training opportunities.
Leading casing accessory and completion tool company Downhole Products is giving all employees at all levels the opportunity to complete an OPITO course in drilling in a bid to improve understanding of how the business operates within its industry.
The optional course and associated assessments are completed in-house and overseen by Downhole Products’ George Richardson who is an OPITO-approved adjudicator.
Students are also assisted by a ‘buddy’ scheme which has been put in place to enable participants to share ideas and learn from each other.
George said: “We started the process by ensuring that the management team completed the course so they could lead by example. Now, everyone in the company who is willing to learn is being given the chance to do so, if they wish.
“Because everything is done in the working environment, people are able to learn in a familiar and relaxed environment and we have found that this increases success and motivation in those who take part in the course.”
George added: “Such has been the success of this venture that we are already offering additional courses and will add more in the near future. This means that the initial course can be used as a stepping stone for those who wish to further their knowledge and qualifications.”
