A LEADING property company has donated in excess of £5,000 to help the victims of child trafficking and modern slavery in Moldova.
The Huntly-based Deveron Group recently celebrated a decade in business with a fundraising dinner in aid of Stella’s Voice, a global organisation which has its European headquarters in Peterhead and operates under the auspices of the New Hope Trust. The charity aims to provide safe houses for girls who have been rescued, giving them the chance to live in a safe environment as part of a family.
The Deveron Group event at the Marcliffe at Pitfodels was attended by staff, guests and associates and also included a presentation to senior sales co-ordinator Edna Shearer in recognition of her ten years of service to the company.
Commenting on the donation to Stella’s Voice, sales director, Lynne Holburn, said: “We are delighted to support the work of Stella’s Voice because our purposes blend very well – whilst we build new homes for people in Scotland we also help to raise funds which in turn helps to build safe and warm homes for young women in Moldova.
“Closer to home, we also encourage our buyers to recycle their unwanted clothes and furniture through the New Hope Trust in Peterhead and, again, Stella’s Voice benefits from the funds raised by the resale of such items.”
Mark Morgan of Stella’s Voice added: “We are very grateful to Deveron Group for using their milestone anniversary to help the work of Stella’s Voice.
“In Moldova, girls are not the only victims of trafficking and young men are also kidnapped, sold and taken away to do manual labour in brutal conditions. Our work tries to help as many people as we can and we are also in the process of creating new buildings to provide additional spaces for victims. The money we have received from Deveron Homes will help us to continue that work.”
